Ensure safety of Eid journey of home-bound people: IGP
Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed on Thursday directed the field level police officers to ensure safe movement of the people going home to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
“The safety of the people has to be ensured through coordination within each unit of the police,” the police chief said addressing virtually at meeting of senior police officers and specialized unit officials at police headquarters.
The IGP directed the police officers to build an adequate security system through beat policing and community policing.

He also asked the police members to follow the instructions of the government in using social media.
He directed the specialized naval, industrial, highway and tourist police units to take adequate security measures in their respective jurisdictions on the occasion of Eid.
During the meeting, AIG (Operations) Mohammad Ehsan Sattar placed security issues related to the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr, shopping malls, banks and financial institutions, bus and launch terminals, and railway stations, Eid Jamaat and leisure center-centric security as well as traffic management and overall law and order.At the meeting, it was decided to deploy women and white-clothes police along with uniformed police in shopping malls, banks and financial institutions.Decisions of providing escorts for large financial transactions or money transfers were also taken at the meeting. The meeting also decided to ensure the security of the country's main Eid Jamaat, including the National Eidgah.

Passengers have been asked not to travel on the roofs of buses and trains and on boats at the risk of their lives.
Additional IG Md. Moinur Rahman Chowdhury, Additional IG M Khurshid Hossain, DIG YM Belalur Rahman, DIG Md Haider Ali Khan and concerned officials were present at the meeting.
IGP addresses conference in Delhi on cyber-crime
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Monday said that cooperation between law enforcement agencies across countries will have to increase in order to curb the growth of cyber-crime in the international arena.
The IGP made the point while addressing the 2nd National Conference on Cyber Crime & Digital Forensics organized by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, says a press release of Police headquarters here on Monday afternoon.
The Chief of Bangladesh Police spoke on "Strengthening International Cooperation for Combating Cyber Crime."

In his speech, he presented background information and various incidents to depict how cyber-crime manifests from the regional to individual level.
The IGP called for increasing regional cooperation in cyber-crime prevention.
The conference was attended by Interpol representatives, police representatives from Japan, Australia and the Maldives, as well as technical experts.

IGP urges police members to stay away from crime
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Wednesday warned that if any police member is found involved in crime, that person would be expelled from the police force.
The IGP was addressing a special welfare meeting with officers and forces of different ranks of all police units of Khulna Range at Jeshore Police Lines on Wednesday.
Chaired by Khulna Range DIG Khandker Mohit Uddin, Jeshore District Superintendent of Police (SP) Pralay Kumar Joardar gave a welcome address in the program.
Benazir said, "We will not commit crimes ourselves, we will not allow any senior or junior colleague to commit crimes either.".
The IGP urged the police personnel not to treat people inhumanely and unprofessionally.
Bangladesh will become a developed country through the implementation of Prime Minister's 'Vision-2041'. Bangladesh Police is also being developed as a modern police suitable for developed countries, he said.

Referring to various steps taken to modernize the police, the IGP said that the state-of-the-art tactical belts, body worn cameras, etc. have already been added to the police. Everything that needs to be done in the future for the modernization of the police will be done for the welfare of the country and the people and to provide better services to the people.
He said that the police had gained the trust, love and trust of the people through firing the first bullet in the war of liberation. Once again, the police have been able to gain the trust of the people during Covid-19 epidemic. It is a very difficult challenge to keep the trust and confidence of the people up, he said.
The police chief formally inaugurated Jeshore Police Hospital, Inspectors' Quarters, Chougachha, Jeshore and Police Officers Mess.
He also laid the foundation stone of Jeshore District Police Multipurpose Building.
Police aviation wing will boost the agency’s capability: IGP
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Monday said that Bangladesh Police will be able to achieve three-dimensional capability after launching of its the newly formed aviation wing.
The Aviation Wing also will play a vital role in quick communication, conducting important operations, search operations and rescue operations in remote areas, he said.
The IGP was exchanging views with a delegation of Army Aviation School led by Major General IKM Mostahsinul Baki, Group Commander of Army Aviation Group, at the Hall of Pride in Police Headquarters on Monday.

106 policemen died of Covid-19 serving the country: IGP
As many as 106 policemen have died of Covid-19 in the last two years of the pandemic, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Sunday.
“Besides, more than 7,000 policemen have been infected with Covid-19. They have recovered and re-engaged in the service of the country and the welfare of the people,” said the IGP after inaugurating the Police Memorial at Police Staff College in Mirpur of the capital.
The IGP said the police force of this country fired the first bullet in favor of the war of liberation and independence in response to Bangabandhu's call in 1971.
“Since then, the members of Bangladesh Police Force formed through the liberation war have been dedicating themselves every year to serve the people, for security, for the discipline and stability of this country,” he added.

The IGP also said the Defense Forces fight to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country in a state of war. “And in peacetime, the police are always engaged in war. This war is against those who are engaged in the destruction of society and the state.”
"Where there is war, there is danger of death," he said. “We lose our colleagues every year. They were martyred to maintain peace and order in the country and to provide security to the people.”
"When one of our policemen sacrifices his/her life, we do not lose a single person. We lost one of our colleagues, comrades and friends,” the IGP said.
At the same time, the family loses their loved ones. He added.
Referring to the construction of the Police Memorial, the IGP said Police Memorial Day is being celebrated since 2017. “We have been trying to establish such a memorial since 2010.”

“Today, after 12 years, this initiative has been successful.”
Additional IGs, heads of various units of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, senior police officers, engineers and architects concerned of the Public Works and Architecture Department and officials of contractors were present at the event.
Police are better trained now to maintain law and order: IGP
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Thursday said the capacity of Bangladesh Police has increased in tackling any challenge to keep law and order.
The IGP came up with the comment while speaking as the chief guest after inspecting the anti-terrorism and hostage rescue exercise of police commando course at APBN and specialized training centre in Khagrachari.
He said police are playing a professional role in ensuring the safety of the people, providing security to their lives and property, maintaining law and order in the country, reducing crime and arresting criminals.

Mentioning the need for training to enhance the skills of the police personnel, the IGP said that such training is very helpful in enhancing the skills of the police personnel.
He said the exercise conducted by the police members today was undoubtedly of international standard. The police chief also mentioned that the skills of the trainers of this course are of international standard.
IGP urges police officials to work for people’s welfare
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Sunday asked the newly promoted additional IGs to work with more dedication for the welfare of the people.
The IGP was addressing as the chief guest at the ceremony of wearing the rank badge of the seven additional IGs, who were promoted to the rank from DIGs on Saturday, at the Hall of Pride of the Police Headquarters in the afternoon.

The IGP said people have high expectations from the police.
“We have to serve the people beyond our expectations. You have been promoted to the highest rank of the police by performing your duties with professionalism," he told the police officials.
“You have nothing more to gain from the police force. Now it's time to give. You will now work for the country and the people and the police force,” the IGP added.

IGP Benazir Ahmed and Additional IG (A&I) Md. Moinur Rahman Chowdhury presented rank badges to the promoted officers.
The promoted officers are- Abu Hassan Muhammad Tariq, Banaj Kumar Majumder, Hasan ul Haider, Md. Monirul Islam, Md. Shahabuddin Khan, Md. Mahabubur Rahman and Barrister Md. Harun Aur Rashid.
Dhaka trashes HR violation allegations against IGP, 6 others
Turning down the allegations of human rights violation against seven present and former officials of RAB, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Saturday said every incident of HR violation is investigated properly in Bangladesh and legal action taken accordingly.
“If any incident of human rights violation is reported, investigations are carried out through magistrates. Legal action is taken here if any government agency violates human rights,” he said.
The minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after attending a programme at Dhaka Wasa in the city.
“The US has not imposed the sanctions neutrally. They did it based on exaggerated news. Maintaining law and order is a challenging task in Bangladesh,” he said.

“Drug peddlers use firearms for self-defence that leads to gunfights with the members of law enforcement agencies, causing casualties,” he added.
On Friday, the United States imposed human rights-related sanctions on Benzir Ahmed, the current Inspector General of the Bangladesh Police and former Director General of Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and six other individuals on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.
The US Department of State announced visa restrictions on Benazir Ahmed what it says due to his “involvement in gross violation of human rights” making him ineligible for entry into the United States.
RAB as an entity, Benzir Ahmed, and six other officials were designated by the Department of the Treasury under the Global Magnitsky sanctions programme in connection with serious human rights abuse, said the US Department of State.
Miftah Uddin Ahmed, Lieutenant Colonel and former commanding officer of RAB Unit 7, was designated, according to the US Department of State.
The US Department of State mentioned the May 2018 “extrajudicial killing” of Teknaf City Municipal Councilor Ekramul Haque in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar district.
The following individuals are designated pursuant to Executive Order (EO) 13818: Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Director General, RAB, Benzir Ahmed, former Director General, RAB, January 2015 to April 14, 2020, Khan Mohammad Azad, Additional Director General (Operations), RAB, March 16, 2021 to present, Tofayel Mustafa Sorwar, former Additional Director General (Operations), RAB, June 27, 2019 to March 16, 2021, Mohammad Jahangir Alam, former Additional Director General (Operations), RAB, September 17, 2018 to June 27, 2019 and Mohammad Anwar Latif Khan, former Additional Director General (Operations), RAB, April 28, 2016 to September 17, 2018, according to the US Department of Treasury.
The EO 13818 means blocking of property in the US. It is the first time individuals or entities from Bangladesh have been the subject of US sanctions.

They were announced as part of a raft of new rights-abuse sanctions on senior officials and entities in eight countries, with targets ranging from a Chinese firm specializing in facial recognition technology to a giant cartoon studio in North Korea.
The measure was partly supported by the UK and Canada, although not in the case of the Bangladeshi officials or RAB.
Wear quality helmets while on the streets, IGP tells motorbikers
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed on Thursday urged motorcyclists not to drive without wearing quality helmets.
The IGP made the call while speaking at the launching of UN Standard Helmet in Bangladesh organized by BRAC at a hotel in the capital.
The IGP said the number of different types of vehicles on the roads is increasing as the country is developing. Road safety is also becoming a challenge day by day.
Referring to study, he said that 70 per cent of the victims of road accidents are pedestrians. On the other hand, most of the motorcycle victims are young people between the ages of 20 and 30. They are the productive manpower of the country.

Benazir said at least 1,494 incidents of road accidents occurred in the country in the last six months. Among them, 478 were of motorcycle accidents. On the other hand, 336 people were killed and 305 injured in those motorcycle accidents during the period.
Of those victims, 239 had helmets, while among the injured people, 224 did not have helmets. This is an aspect of not having a helmet. On the other hand, the quality of the helmet, he added.
The police chief said that there is no certification authority for helmets in our country. He emphasized on Bangladesh importing European Union or US standard helmets or assembling them in the country.

The IGP said many companies in the country are now producing motorcycles. He appealed to the motorcycle manufacturers to fix the package price by adding helmets to the motorcycles. He also demanded an end to the import of low quality helmets.
He said that if a person is killed or injured in a road accident, it is not only the loss of a family but also the economy of the country.
State Minister for Planning said. Shamsul Alam, BRTA Chairman Noor Mohammad Majumder and senior officials of the World Bank were present.
IGP leaves for Turkey to attend Interpol general assembly
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed left for Turkey on Saturday to attend the 89th Interpol General Assembly.
He will lead a five-member delegation to the 3-day conference that will be held in Turkey on November 23-25, said AIG (Media) of the Police headquarters Md Kamruzzaman.
The International Criminal Police Organization, commonly known as Interpol, is an international organization that facilitates worldwide police cooperation and crime control.

At the conference, police representatives from 194 member countries of Interpol will formulate various policies on the current global security situation, international and inter-state crime, violence, fundamentalism and terrorism, money laundering, organized crime, cybercrime, pornography, abuse of women and children, sexual harassment and data management of miscellaneous crimes, and will take plan adoption and determine implementation strategy in this regards.
Besides, the conference will focus on mutual cooperation in inter-state crime detection and suppression strategies, enhancing the capacity of the police and various issues related to current and future crimes and what needs to be done to resolve the crisis, he said.
The IGP of Bangladesh will have a courtesy meeting with the Secretary General of Interpol, the police chiefs of friendly countries including their representatives from ASEANPOL and their delegations and discuss matters of mutual interest, the AIG (media) added.

ASEANAPOL is the National Police organisation for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)
The delegation is expected to return to the country on November 27 after attending the 89th Interpol General Assembly.
