T20 World Cup: Kohli, Pandya guide India to 168 in semifinal vs England
Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya hit a 50 each and guided India to a challenging total of 168 for six against England in the second semifinal of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Adelaide.
India lost the toss, and they were sent to bat first. They lost Lokesh Rahul early. Virat came in number three and scored 50 off 40 balls before falling prey to Chris Jordan. It was a wide-ish yorker from Jordan that ended up as a catch to Adil Rashid.

Rohit Sharma scored 27 off 28 balls. The Indian captain was not at his best in the semifinal which put extra pressure on their batting line.
At the end of the first ten overs, India had only 62 on their board losing two wickets. But in the last 10 overs, they scored 106 runs losing four more wickets.
Hardik Pandya came to bat before Rishabh Pant and posted 63 off just 33 balls with four fours and five sixes. Hardik was dismissed only in the last ball of the innings, but before that, he was the man danger for the English bowling lineup.

Chris was the best bowler for them, though, he conceded more than 40 runs but bagged three wickets as well.
To win this match, England have to make a record of the highest second innings total in Adelaide in T20Is. The highest second-inning total in this venue is 164 for seven scored by Afghanistan against Australia in 2022 while the highest successful second-inning total is 158 by England against Australia in 2011.
So to march to the final, England will have to work really hard.

Both India and England have one T20 World Cup title.

Arshdeep Singh has been, though surprisingly, leading the Indian bowling line taking 10 wickets in the World Cup so far.
In contrast, England are slightly behind India in terms of form in this edition of the T20 World Cup. But when it comes to white-ball cricket, England are always a dangerous team.
Under the leadership of Jos Buttler, they play an ultra-aggressive brand of cricket. But in this World Cup, they have been doing very well in the death over bowling. If they can continue with that in the semi as well, they might get a place in the final of Sunday.
Pakistan have already booked a place in the final beating New Zealand in the first semifinal in Sydney.

India (IND) will be locking horns with England (ENG) in the second semifinal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, November 10. The Men in Blue would be oozing with confidence heading into this knockout fixture having topped Group 2 winning four of their five matches with eight points to their tally. Their only loss came against South Africa.
Meanwhile, England are also a force to reckon with in this competition. While they were stunned by Ireland in Super 12, the Three Lions played an outstanding brand of cricket to register a hard-fought 20-run victory over New Zealand before defeating Sri Lanka by four wickets in their final game to seal a semis berth and end arch-rivals Australia’s title reign.

T20 World Cup: India, England face off Thursday with eye on final against Pakistan
Asian giant India and current 50-over world champions England will meet Thursday at the Adelaide Oval in the second T20 World Cup semi-final, with Pakistan waiting in the final.
Both India and England previously played two finals of the T20 World Cups, and each won a title and lost one.
India won the first edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 after beating Pakistan in the final. And England won the T20 World Cup 2010, beating Australia in the final and losing the final of the 2016 edition to the West Indies in India.
Red more: T20 World Cup: Knocking out New Zealand, Pakistan moves to final
India has been playing in the ongoing World Cup with their strong brand of T20 cricket. Virat Kohli, who had been struggling to do well, is now the top run-scorer of the World Cup. Suryakumer Yadav has also been doing well.
Team India also have a strong bowling line-up, with Arshdeep Sing taking 10 wickets so far in the event.
And for England, Alex Hales has been the best batter, scoring 125 runs so far with a fifty. The other England batter who hit a fifty in this World Cup is Jos Buttler.
Sam Curran is the main star in the English bowling line-up. He has bagged 10 wickets so far in this world cup, and his performance is key for England in the semifinal clash against India.

While India and England are gearing up for another final berth, Pakistan has booked a place in the final. They beat New Zealand by seven wickets on Wednesday and marched to the final on November 13 in Melbourne.
T20 World Cup: Australia-England match also washed out due to rain
Defending champion Australia and England had to be content with splitting the competition points after their Twenty20 World Cup Group 1 game was abandoned because of rain on Friday.
Both games in Friday’s double-header at the Melbourne Cricket Ground were washed out without a ball being bowled. Afghanistan has now had two washouts in three days against New Zealand and then Ireland.
Heavy rain along Australia's east coast has caused widespread flooding, including in areas near Melbourne.
“The outfield has taken a drenching. It’s as wet as I’ve ever seen it in this stadium,” Australia captain Aaron Finch said of his home ground at the MCG. “It’s disappointing not to get on, but the amount of rain has been amazing."
Australia and England needed to avoid a loss in their much-hyped showdown to have any realistic chance of progressing to the semifinals. Now both teams are still fully in contention.
New Zealand leads the group after its thumping opening win over Australia and its wash out against Afghanistan. England, Ireland and Australia are also on three points, but have each played one more game than New Zealand and have inferior net run-rates.
England was coming off an upset loss to Ireland on Wednesday and was determined to get back into winning form against Australia heading into last two group games against New Zealand in Brisbane next Tuesday and Sri Lanka in Sydney on Nov. 5.
“It was due to be a massive occasion,” England captain Jos Buttler said of the game against Australia in front of a big crowd at the MCG. “A full house here against Australia. Very disappointed not to get it played.”
Australia will host Ireland in Brisbane on Monday and finish the group stage against Afghanistan.
New Zealand and Sri Lanka were scheduled to play on Saturday. Group 2 is back in action Sunday with a double-header in Perth featuring Pakistan against Netherlands and India taking on South Africa.
Life in the fast lane: Kane double takes him to EPL landmark
Harry Kane used to be regarded as a slow starter to Premier League seasons.
Not this time.
The England captain scored for the third straight game with his double earning Tottenham a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday and taking Kane to third in the all-time Premier League scoring charts.
Kane also scored a stoppage-time equalizer against Chelsea in the second round and the winner against Wolverhampton last weekend.
Kane had never scored in the season-opening month of August until 2018, a run of 15 matches across different seasons. He also had a poor start to last season, after a summer move to Manchester City didn’t materialize, before finding form in the new year.
After a full preseason, he has hit the ground running in the 2022-23 campaign — and should have had another goal to his name against Forest, only for a second-half penalty to be saved by Dean Henderson.
Also Sunday, West Ham beat Aston Villa 1-0 to earn its first points of the season and Newcastle struck in the 90th minute to leave Wolverhampton with a 1-1 draw.
MOVING UP
Kane scored in either half to draw level with Andrew Cole on 187 Premier League goals — behind only Alan Shearer (260) and Wayne Rooney (208) — and ensure his side’s unbeaten start to the season continues. Tottenham is third with 10 points from four games, two points behind leader Arsenal.
Kane's perfect day was only spoilt when Henderson’s second penalty save in back-to-back home games saw the England striker’s run of 21 successful spot kicks come to an end.
Antonio Conte’s Spurs found the perfect way to quieten down the home ground as it took the lead after just five minutes. Kane’s touch set Dejan Kulusevski away and, after advancing up the pitch, the Swede returned the ball to the England captain, who found the bottom corner from 20 yards in clinical fashion.
Tottenham was awarded a penalty eight minutes after the break as Steve Cook deliberately handled Ivan Perisic’s cross. When the penalty was finally taken after a VAR check Henderson produced the heroics again — just as he did against West Ham — as he dived full length to his right to palm away Kane’s powerful kick. It was the first spot kick Kane had missed for Tottenham since February 2018.

The visitors did eventually double their lead with nine minutes remaining. Richarlison won the ball back and sent in a delicious cross that Kane headed into an empty net.
FIRST POINTS FOR WEST HAM
West Ham recorded its first points and first goal of the league season with a victory at Aston Villa.
Pablo Fornals scored the only goal of the game. His deflected second-half strike was enough to see the Hammers open their account for the top-flight campaign after losses to Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Brighton.
The win will ease some of the pressure on West Ham coach David Moyes but increase the tension for counterpart Steven Gerrard, whose side were booed off at full time.
Villa thought it had taken the lead in the 14th minute but Ezri Konsa’s goal was disallowed as Lucas Digne’s corner kick had gone fractionally out of play.
Fornals opened the scoring at Villa Park with 16 minutes remaining. Kurt Zouma brought the ball forward and found captain Declan Rice, who picked out Fornals and the Spaniard’s 25-yard effort deflected off Konsa and looped over Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez .
UNBEATEN MAGPIES
Allan Saint-Maximin’s stunning 90th-minute equalizer saw Newcastle snatch a draw at Wolverhampton, salvaging its unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
Under pressure from Jacob Murphy, Hwang Hee-chan sliced a clearance into the air and it dropped for Saint-Maximin to thump a brilliant volley into the corner from 20 yards.
The Magpies then almost turned the match around completely in stoppage time with Elliot Anderson hitting the crossbar.
Ruben Neves’ first-half screamer had given Wolves the lead.
Newcastle needed Saint-Maximin to produce as Eddie Howe was unable to call on new $70 million signing Alexander Isak, with the Sweden international yet to receive his work permit, while Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson were injured.
The point does little to raise hopes at Molineux with Wolves still looking for the first league win of the season.
SATURDAY'S GAMES
Liverpool blew away Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield on Saturday, equaling the record for the biggest-ever victory in the Premier League.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland netted a second-half hat trick as City rallied to beat Crystal Palace 4-2 at home.
Arsenal maintained its perfect start to the season by rallying for a 2-1 win over Fulham.
England to play 3 Test matches in Pakistan in December
England will play a three-Test series in Pakistan as part of the World Test Championship (WTC) in December, the Pakistan Cricket Board said Monday.
Rawalpindi will host the first test from December 1-5 while the second Test will be played at Multan from December 9-13.
Pakistan's favourite home ground – the National Stadium at Karachi – will host the third and final Test from December 17-21.
Pakistan have lost just two Test matches at Karachi out of 44, with one of the defeats coming against England in 2000. South Africa won the other Test when it beat Pakistan by 160 runs in 2007. Pakistan have won 23 test matches at the National Stadium.
It will be England's first Test tour to Pakistan since 2005. England are also scheduled to play a seven-match Twenty20 series in Pakistan next month as a build-up for the T20 World Cup in Australia before returning in December for the Test series.
England will play a Test match in Rawalpindi for the first time. Pakistan has happy memories in Multan where they beat England by 22 runs during their last tour 17 years ago.

"We have been working closely with the PCB over recent months and I am grateful to them for everything they have done, and continue to do, to make our Test and T20 tours a mouth-watering prospect for all involved," ECB's interim chief executive officer Clare Connor said in a statement.
"The return of our men's Test team to Pakistan for the first time since 2005 will be a historic occasion. The opportunity to play Test cricket in front of passionate cricket lovers in Pakistan after such a long time is something to be cherished."
Zakir Khan, the PCB's director of international cricket, said Pakistan and England have historically produced some close test matches.
"Pakistan cricket fans have waited for almost 17 years to see elite England players in action," Khan said.
"Both the sides have evolved since they last played in Pakistan in 2005 and have recently been playing entertaining and exciting cricket. I remain confident this series will live up to the expectations of the global cricket fans who want to watch and enjoy competitive and thrilling matches."
England are in seventh place in the WTC points table while Pakistan is fifth.
South Africa out for 326, leads England by 161 in 1st Test
South Africa will take a lead of 161 runs into the second innings of the first Test against England at Lord’s.
The Proteas resumed on 289-7 and were bowled out for 326 after an hour’s play on Day 3, with Stuart Broad taking a wonder-catch before cleaning up the tail with two wickets on Friday.
Broad leaped backward and took a one-handed catch at wide mid-on to remove Kagiso Rabada for 3 off the third ball of the day, bowled by Matt Potts, then got edges into the slip cordon to account for Marco Jansen (48) and Lungi Ngidi (0).

Sweden, the 2020 Olympics silver medalist, drops one place to No. 3 after being beaten by England in the semifinals at Euro 2022.
Fifth-place France and No. 6 Netherlands both dropped two spots. Olympic champion Canada is No. 7.
New African champion South Africa jumped four places to No. 54 in the rankings which now include a record 185 of the 211 FIFA member federations.
England to play 7 T20s in Pakistan next month
England will tour Pakistan for the first time in 17 years when it plays seven Twenty20s next month in Karachi and Lahore.
Karachi will host four T20s from Sept. 20-25 and Lahore will host the remaining three from Sept. 28-Oct. 2.
England last toured Pakistan in 2005, while Pakistan twice hosted in the United Arab Emirates in 2012 and 2016. Last year, England was due to tour Pakistan just before the T20 World Cup but withdrew citing “bubble fatigue” and unexplained security concerns.
“England ... playing the shortest format in the leadup to the men’s T20 World Cup in Pakistan will not only help the team management to finalise their preparations, but will also set the tone for December’s three-test series,” Pakistan Cricket Board director international cricket Zakir Khan said in a statement on Tuesday.

England will return to Pakistan after the T20 World Cup in Australia in October to play three test matches in December.
England’s security delegation visited Pakistan last month.
Pakistan will also host New Zealand in two phases. New Zealand will play two tests and three one-day internationals in December-January and return in April for another five ODIs and five T20s.
Pakistan is also due next year to host the Asia Cup for the first time since 2008, as warmup event for next year’s 50-over Cricket World Cup in India in October-November.
