Covid-19: 14 more die in Kushtia
Fourteen more Covid-19 related deaths were recorded at Kushtia General Hospital in 24 hours till Monday morning.
Of the deceased,eight were confirmed Covid patients while the remaining six showed symptoms of the virus, said Dr MA Momen, administrator of Kushtia General Hospital.

Kushtia recorded 22 deaths on Friday, the highest single-day fatality count this year.
Besides, the district logged as many as 277 fresh Covid cases in the past 24 hours after testing 1077 samples during this period, said Dr Momen.

The positivity rate in the district currently stands at 26.97%.
Besides, 268 patients with Covid symptoms are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, the official said.
So far, 10,582 people have been found infected in the district, while 341 people have died of Covid-19.

Dr Tapas Kumar Sarkar, the resident medical officer of the hospital, said the hospital staff are struggling to handle the rising number of Covid patients in the district.
Khulna Division records 51 more single-day Covid deaths
Amid the worsening Covid-19 situation in Khulna region, health authorities recorded 51 more deaths in the division in 24 hours until Thursday morning.
During the period, 1,732 people were infected with the deadly virus.

Of the deceased, 21 people died in Khulna district, 10 in Kushtia, six in Jashore, four in Narail, three each in Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Narail and Magura and one each in Bagerhat and Meherpur districts, said Dr Rasheda Sultana, director (Health).
In the Khulna division, the first case of Covid-19 was detected in Chuadanga on March 19, 2020.

An analysis of the district-wise covid data of the divisional health department shows that Khulna recorded the highest number of 338 infection cases in the last 24 hours. So far, 17,898 people have been infected with covid-19 and 369 people died in the district. Besides, 12,172 recovered from the disease.
Overall, 67,531 people have been infected with the virus in 10 districts of the division and the death toll from the virus reached 1,416.

Some 44,184 people have recovered to date in the Khulna division.
Covid nightmare in Bangladesh: Daily-death toll crosses 200
In a disastrous turn, Bangladesh recorded 201 deaths in 24 hours until Wednesday morning, its highest-ever single-day fatalities.
The first seven days of July have been the deadliest ones in the current pandemic, with the country registering 1,090 deaths during the period as it is struggling with a catastrophic second wave of the virus.
Besides, the country logged 11,162 new cases as the case positivity rate declined slightly to 31.32 % from Tuesday’s 31.46%.
The new numbers took Bangladesh’s death toll to 15, 593 while the caseload to 977,568. The fresh coronavirus cases were detected after testing 37,147 samples during the period, according to a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The case fatalities remained unchanged at 1.60% after remaining static at 1.59% for a long time.

Bangladesh’s Covid hotspot Khulna continues to be the hardest hit with the district registering the highest number of single-day deaths yet again, 66. Dhaka followed Khulna with 58 deaths during this time.
Besides, 21 people died in Chattogram division, 18 in Rajshahi, 14 in Rangpur, nine in Sylhet, eight in Mymensingh and seven in Barishal divisions.
So far, 850,502 people have recovered from the disease putting the recovery rate at 87%, which is declining unlike other indicators.
Among Wednesday’s 201 deceased, 119 were men and 82 were women.
Of them, 1 belonged to the age group of 11-20, four were within 21-30, nine between 31-40, 25 between 41-50, 47 between 51-60 and 115 were above 60 years old.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday said Bangladesh is hopeful of receiving more vaccine doses this month from Japan, the European Union (EU) and the USA under COVAX facility apart from a steady flow of that from China.

“We’re in a good position now. I should say we’ve made a line up. I think there’ll be no vaccine crisis, and the vaccination programme will continue uninterruptedly,” he told a small group of reporters at his residence.
Dr Momen said Bangladesh is expected to get around 2.5 million doses of vaccine from Japan while 1 million from the EU under the COVAX facility. “These’re likely to be AstraZeneca vaccine doses.”
In another positive turn of events, people will now be able to register for Covid-19 vaccine through imo, according to a press release of the popular messaging app.
The move aims to amplify the mass vaccination efforts of the Bangladesh government, said the press release issued on Wednesday.
Khulna division logs 60 singe-day deaths, 1,900 cases
Covid-19 claimed 60 more lives in Khulna division in 24 hours until Wednesday morning, the highest single-day fatalities in the region, said divisional health authorities.
During the period, 1,900 people were infected with the deadly virus, shattering the previous record.

Khulna recorded 51 deaths on Monday while 1865 people were found infected in one day on Tuesday.
Dr Rasheda Sultana, director (Health), said 21 people died of coronavirus in Khulna in 24 hours, 11 in Kushtia, six in Jashore, seven in Jhenaidah, five in Chuadanga, four in Narail, three in Bagerhat, two in Meherpur and one in Magura districts.
In the Khulna division, the first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 19, 2020 in Chuadanga.

So far, 63,934 people have been infected with the virus in 10 districts of the division and the death toll has hit 1,325.
Some 42,844 people have so far recovered from the disease.
Covid claims 17 more lives in Khulna
Seventeen more people have died of Covid-19 at three different hospitals in Khulna district in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Tuesday morning.
Thirteen of them succumbed to Covid-19, while the remaining four died after showing symptoms of the virus, said nodal officer at Khulna Corona Dedicated Hospital, Dr Suhas Ranjan Haldar.

Of the deceased, eight people died at the dedicated Covid facility of Khulna Medical College and Hospital, five succumbed to the virus at the corona unit of Khulna General Hospital and four at the private Gazi Medical College Hospital, he said.
According to him, 180 people are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. Of them, 109 people are getting treatment in the red zone of the hospital, 31 in the yellow zone and 20 in the ICU (intensive care unit).
Some 33 people have been admitted to the hospital during the 24-hour period, while 40 were discharged from the hospital, he said.
Gazi Mizanur Rahman, owner of Gazi Medical College Hospital, said four people died of Covid-19 during the period. Besides, some 134 people are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.
Moreover, five people died of Covid-19 at the corona unit of Khulna General Hospital while 70 people are undergoing treatment at the hospital, said Dr Kazi Abu Rashed, spokesman for the hospital.
Amid an alarming surge in Covid-19 cases and deaths over the past few weeks, Khulna division is now clamouring for oxygen.

While few hospitals in Khulna division have already run out of the life-saving gas, many other medical facilities are operating on the edge due to an acute shortage of oxygen.
During the past week, seven Covid-19 patients have died at Satkhira Medical College Hospital in Satkhira district due to the unavailability of oxygen. A probe was ordered into the deaths on June 30.
Kushtia sees 20 more Covid-related deaths
Twenty more Covid-related deaths were recorded in Kushtia in 24 hours till Monday morning, the district's second highest single-day deaths this year.
Of the total deaths, 17 people died at the Corona unit of Kushtia General Hospital while the rest 3 died in Kumarkhali upazila, said Dr MA Momen, the administrator of Kushtia General Hospital.

Sixteen of them died of Covid-19 while the rest died after showing Covid-19 symptoms, he said.
Kushtia recorded 21 Covid-related deaths on Sunday, highest in the district so far.
Besides, the district logged 292 fresh Covid cases in the past 24 hours till Monday morning.

"A total of 885 samples were tested during the period," said Dr MA Momen.
The case positivity rate in the district currently stands at 30.30%.
So far, 8,766 people have been found infected in the district while 245 people died of Covid-19.
Some 5,823 people have recovered as of now.
Besides, 287 patients are currently undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital with Covid related reasons.
Dr Taposh Kumar Sarkar, resident medical officer of the hospital, said: “The number of Covid-19 patients is increasing here day by day, forcing authorities to accommodate patients on the hospital floor. If the situation worsens further, it will be so tough to handle the situation with its limited manpower.”
Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 85 more deaths, positivity rate crosses 20%
Health authorities logged 5,727 more new Covid-19 cases in Bangladesh with a positivity rate of 20.27% in 24 hours until Wednesday morning as the Coronavirus keeps wreaking havoc on the country in its 2nd wave.
This is the highest number of cases registered in a single day since 13 April.
The positivity rate in the country rose to 20.27% from Tuesday’s 19.36%, according to a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Besides, the deadly virus claimed the lives of 85 more people during the 24-hour period, bringing the national tally to 13,787.
This is the highest since 20 April when the country logged 88 deaths in a single day.
The fresh cases pushed up the total caseload to 8,66,877, the handout added.
However, the mortality rate remained static at 1.59%.
So far, 791,553 people have recovered from the virus infections with 3,168 new ones.
Among the recent deceased, 55 were men and 30 were women. Of them, 10 between 31-40, 11 between 41-50, 18 between 51-60 and 46 were above 60 years of old.
The highest number of 36 deaths were recorded in Khulna division followed by Dhaka and Rajshahi with 19 and 18 deaths respectively.

The number of deaths was 7 in Chattogram, 3 in Mymensingh and 1 each in Barishal and Rangpur.
How to avert nationwide lockdown
The countrywide lockdown will not be necessary if Covid-19 transmission can be controlled in Dhaka and its adjacent districts, says the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
DGHS spokesperson Dr Robed Amin came up with the remark at its daily virtual briefing on Covid-19 on Wednesday.
“We’re observing the infection rates both in Dhaka and the surrounding districts. If the situation worsens in the capital first, a lockdown will be imposed in Dhaka and then across the country,” he said.
Lockdown extended in Rajshahi
Lockdown was extended for another week in Rajshahi city on Wednesday in an effort to bring the worsening coronavirus situation under control.
Abdul Jalil, deputy commissioner of Rajshahi, made the announcement following a meeting at his office on Wednesday afternoon.
Now the lockdown, which started on June 11, will remain in force until June 30.

Rajshahi recorded 18 new Covid-related deaths in 24 hours, according to the DGHS handout.
A total of 245 people have died of Covid-19 at the corona unit of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital in the last 23 days, according to sources.
36 deaths in Khulna!
Covid-19 continues to choke lives out of the residents of Khulna as 36 people died in the division in the last 24 hours, the highest in the country.
At Khulna General Hospital, some 156 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the corona unit.
Of them, 98 people are getting treatment in the red zone of the hospital, 22 in the yellow zone, 20 in ICU (intensive care unit), and 16 in HDU (high deficiency unit), reported our correspondent citing hospital sources.

Bangladesh logged 63 more Coronavirus-related deaths in the last 24 hours until 8am on Thursday as the country is scrambling to manage the 2nd wave of the virus infection.
The new deaths pushed up the number of fatalities to 13,345.

The virus also infected 3,840 people during the period, raising the total caseload to 8,41,087.
The positivity rate slightly declined to 15.44 percent from Wednesday’s 16.62 percent, said a handout issued by the Directorate General of Health Services.
However, the fatality rate remained static at 1.59 % during the period.
The country last recorded 15.07 percent positivity rate on April 21.

The fresh cases were detected after testing 24,871 samples during the period.
As 776,466 people recovered from the virus, the country's recovery rate now stands at 92.32 percent, which is on the decline for a week.

Eighteen more Covid-19 patients died in Khulna division in the last 24 hours until 8 am on Thursday, a top health official said.

Of the deceased, four are from Khulna, four from Kushtia, three from Jashore, two from Chuadanga, two from Meherpur, one each from Bagerhat, Magura, and Jhinaidah districts.
During the period, some 765 people have tested positive for Covid-19 and 281 people recovered, according to Khulna Divisional Health Office.

In Khulna division, the first case of Covid-19 was detected in Chuadanga on March 19, 2020.
So far, 42,611 people have been infected with the virus in 10 districts of the division and the death toll has reached 767. A total of 33,827 people have recovered from the virus to date.
Indian variant couldn't spread much: Health Minister
The highly contagious Indian variant of coronavirus did not spread much in Bangladesh, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said Monday.
“This (Indian) variant has been found in a small number of patients in Bangladesh. It could not spread much as the border with the neighbouring country was closed in time," he said.

In a briefing at his ministry, he advised keeping the border shut until India's situation stabilises.
Meanwhile, Maleque said that administering of Chinese Covid-19 vaccine will begin on May 25 or 26.
“Vaccine will be given to those who need it the most,” he said while responding to a question from reporters.

‘Good news soon’
Minister Maleque said the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine will run out within seven to 10 days but the government is trying to get vaccines to continue the inoculation drive.
“We contacted the Indian High Commissioner, we talked to the UK authorities and the Prime Minister is also trying to get the vaccine doses,” he said.
Maleque said the government has taken some initiatives.
“We talked to the US, China, Russia and the UK and some progress has been made. Hopefully you will get a good news soon. As per contracts, we got only seven million doses out of 30 million. We’re also worried about the second dose of vaccine like you,” he added.
