Maritime ports asked to host signal no 3
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three as a deep convection is taking place over the north bay and the adjoining area.
Under its influence, squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas, said a Met Office bulletin on Thursday.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh crossed the 100,000-mark on Thursday after the health authorities announced detection of 3,803 new cases in the last 24 hours.
Take necessary steps to tackle LSD of cattle: Ministry
The Fisheries and Livestock Ministry has asked the Livestock Department to take necessary measures immediately for preventing lumpy skin diseases (LSD) of cattle.
The Ministry issued a circular in this regard on Thursday.
It also asked to take necessary measures for the treatment of the cattle, infected with the viral diseases.
The Ministry also asked to form a medical team consisting of an Upazila Livestock officer, one veterinary surgeon and a Livestock Extension officer. Deputy assistant livestock officer and veterinary filed assistant and filed assistant will be a part of the team, the release said.
It also asked the medical team to ensure physical presence and visit the cattle infected by the disease and ordered the District/Division Livestock officer to monitor it.
The Ministry also asked to make a list of the cattle owners, infected with the virus, address and mobile numbers.
Lumpy skin disease (LSD) of cattle has been reported from Sadar, Khansama and Bochaganj upazilas in Dinajpur.

ACC seeks income tax details of MP Shahid, family
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought income tax documents of Mohammad Shahid Islam, MP of Laxmipur-2 constituency (independent), his family and his sister-in-law from the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said deputy director of ACC Mohammad Salauddin sought the documents from NBR in connection with the MP’s alleged involvement in money laundering and accumulating illegal wealth.
Besides, it also served a notice to the Election Commission to get the electoral affidavit of MP Shahid and his wife Selina Islam.
“The ACC investigation against MP Shahid and his family is going on and the organisation will issue letters to different organisations seeking information about the MP which is a routine work. As far as I know, restriction has been imposed on MP Shahid's family over going outside the country,” the ACC official said.
Kushtia, Bheramara municipality go under lockdown from Thursday
The local administration has put eight wards of Kushtia municipality and some areas in Bheramara upazila including Bheramara municipality under complete lockdown from early Thursday after a rise in the number of Covid-19 patients in the preceding 14 days.
Roads connected to the locdown areas have been closed around 5am while security measures have been strengthened to contain the spread of coronavirus.
The eight wards under Kushtia municipality are Thanapara-Kamalapur, Kuthipara, Chourhash-Phultala, Housing, Kalishankarpur, Baradi-Mangalbari, Majampur-udibari, Kumargaon-Chechua, Hatash Haripur union in Sadar upazila, seven wards — 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9 -- under Bheramara municipality, Bahirchar and Chandgram union of the Bheramara upazila.
Bangladesh to see 7.5pc growth in FY2021: ADB
Bangladesh’s GDP is expected to grow by 4.5 percent in FY2020 and 7.5 percent in FY2021, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said in the update report of Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2020 Supplement on Thursday.
The growth forecast for FY2020 reflects sharp decrease in economic activities in the last quarter due to COVID-19 pandemic and its outbreak in Bangladesh, according to a press release.
Bangladesh’s economy is expected to recover in fiscal year 2021 after coronavirus induced slowdown in FY2020, according to the latest ADB report of ADO Supplement.
During FY2021, GDP growth rate is expected to pick up to 7.5 percent driven by gradual recovery in the first two quarters, followed by quick recovery in the following quarters.
These forecasts rest on the assumption that it would take three months, from when the outbreak intensifies in the country, for economies to get their domestic outbreak under control and to start normalising economic activities, it said.
These forecasts also consider the impacts of the government’s containment actions, and fiscal and monetary stimulus measures.
Coronavirus: Global death tally reaches 448,474
The global death toll from coronavirus stood at 448,474 as of Thursday morning, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.
Besides, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases has gone up to 8,329,221.
According to JHU data, Brazil and Russia have come up to the second and the third positions after the US with 955,377 and 552,549 confirmed cases as of Thursday.
Meanwhile, India has come up to the fourth position after Russia with 354,065 confirmed Covid-19 cases. The country has so far reported 11,903 deaths.
Brazil counted the second highest deaths after the US as it reported 46,510 deaths from the virus till the date.
BAF aircrews leave for S Korea to transport essential medical aids
