Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase on Wednesday approved two separate proposals to this end. The committee also approved nine proposals from various ministries.
Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque presided over the meeting in absence of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
The Home Ministry proposed procuring 140 SUVs by police for using them in operational activities, Nasima Khatun, additional secretary of the Cabinet Division, told reporters.
State-owned Pragoti Industries will supply the jeeps at a total cost of Tk 126.9 crore.
Police will procure 650 double cabin pick-ups at a cost of Tk 281.9 crore while each pick-up will cost Tk 43.37 lakh. Local firm Rangs Limited won the contract to supply the pick-ups.
The Cabinet body approved a proposal of the Health Ministry to procure 297 cross-country vehicles (jeep) for its different health service organisations. Rangs Limited also won the contract to supply the jeeps at Tk 168.77 crore while each jeep will cost Tk 56.83 lakh.
The committee approved a proposal of the Industries Ministry to import 25,000 tons of bagged prilled urea fertiliser from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) under the state-level agreement. The import will cost Tk 59.57 crore.
There is an agreement with SABIC to import a total of 4,05,000 mt of fertiliser.
The committee also gave a nod to the Industries Ministry’s proposal to procure remaining fertiliser under different lots by its own procurement authority without moving to the Cabinet body.
The proposal of the Road Transportation and Highways Division to appoint a consultant for its Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project at a cost of Tk 281.97 crore received the committee’s nod.
A consortium of three firms — Tecnica of Spain, Dohwa Engineering of South Korea and DDC of Bangladesh — won the contract at a cost of Tk 272.68 crore.
The committee approved a proposal of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to import 26,400 metric tons of diesel from India.
India’s Numaligar Refinery will supply the bulk diesel through railway wagons to the Parbatipur depot of Bangladesh at a cost of Tk 582.39 crore while premium of per ton of diesel was fixed at $5.5 per barrel.
The committee approved three separate proposals of Power Division to import SPC poles for rural electrification.
As per tender proposals, the Rural Electrification Board (REB) will procure 230,925 SPC poles for Rajshahi, Ragpur, Khuna and Barisal divisions at a cost of Tk 499.54 crore. The poles will be supplied by local firms Charka, Contec Concrete, Pole & Concrete and the Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Ltd (BMTF).
Under another tender, local firms Confidence Power, TSCO, Pasha Poles, and BMTF will supply 233,581 poles to REB at a total cost of Tk 548.51 crore for rural electrification projects in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattagram, and Sylhet divisions.
REB will procure 297,054 poles for its project titled ‘1.5 million consumer connections through rural electrification’ from five local firms Zemcon, Contec, Electro Pac, Data Ltd and BMTF at a cost of Tk 830.27 crore.
State-owned BMTF won the contract under direct procurement method while other firms had to win their contracts under different lots through competitive bidding process, said the Cabinet Division officials.
