“A total of over 8,000 applications were submitted for online registration. There is a need for scrutiny to identify those online newspapers which are going to work on actual basis or have the capability to work. They will be brought under registration process through registration for establishing discipline in this sector,” Dr Mahmud said.
The Information Minister came up with the information while talking to reporters after a meeting with DCs at the Secretariat.
“We have sought applications from online newspaper for registration and today is the last day for submitting application,” he said.
Replying to a query, Hasan said “We do not give any time frame for online registration as it needs time for scrutiny but which have worked for online actually, will be brought under registration process soon.”
Replying to a question about the existing law of the cable network, the Minister said “We have launched mobile court drives few days ago to maintain the serial of the TV channels and following the drive the cable operators are maintaining the serial.”
Referring to the meeting with DCs, Hasan, said “A brief discussion was held on the challenges of new media specially about the social media as it is a big challenge for not only Bangladesh but all over the world.”
Besides, the DCs have been asked to be alert to prevent misuse of Digital Security Act, or ensure that none can face any harassment due to implementation of the Act.
