Hasan Al Mamun, convener of Bangladesh General Students Rights Protection Council, that led the quota reform movement, told UNB he was attacked in front of the DU Central Library around 1pm.
"We came to the campus to submit a petition to the vice chancellor demanding that the polling centres for the DUCSU election be set up in academic buildings and a list of other demands,” said Mamun.
“We went to the area in front of the library to have some tea. Suddenly around 20-30 BCL men led by Surja Sen Hall Chhatra League Vice President Raisul attacked and beat us. We cannot understand it,” he added.
Asked about the incident, BCL DU unit President Sanjit Chandra Das said, “No member of our organization was involved in the attack. They’ve developed a bad habit of blaming the Chhatra League whenever they clash with anyone."
DU proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said,"We have heard about the incident. We will take steps against those involved with this incident after investigation."
