The approval was given at the weekly meeting of the Cabinet held at the Prime Minister’s Office with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, said Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam while briefing reporters at the Secretariat after the meeting.
The ‘Bangladesh Flag Vessels (Protection) Ordinance 1982’ was promulgated on June 28, 1982 and following the Supreme Court order, some changes were brought to it, he said.
There are some changes in section 3 of the ordinance and there are some restrictions on carrying goods through the Bay of Bengal, the Cabinet secretary said.
Besides, there is a provision of appeal in section 8 of the act. If anyone is fined for violating the rules, he/she can file appeal within 30 days, he said.
The Cabinet also approved the draft of ‘Bangladesh Institute of Sports Education Bill 2019’ to replace the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan Ordinance, 1983.
It also gave go-ahead to the International Mother Language Institute Award Policy-2019 bill to introduce a new award titled ‘International Mother Language Award’. The award will be given to two local and two international recipients in every two years ahead of the International Mother Language Day.
About the Moulvibazar train crash, the Cabinet secretary said the accident took place due to overloading as the train was overcrowded due to the problem on Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
