They said the killers would have been arrested from the spot had the law enforcers been sincere.
Rifat Sharif, 22, was hacked to death by criminals in front of his wife in broad daylight in the district town on Wednesday. The incident was caught on surveillance camera.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police of the district Maruf Hossain said there is no pressure on law enforcers and they will arrest the criminals.
It was claimed that prime accused Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayon alias Nayon Bond went to his village home in Patuakhali’s Dashmina upazila after the murder.
Asked about it, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Abir Hossain Mahmud said law enforcers were not aware of it.
Police arrested a young man named Saimun as a suspect in connection with the murder although he was not present at the spot during the incident. He bought a SIM card using the national identity card of Rabbi who was made accused in the case. Another arrestee Tanvir was also not present.
At a press conference at his office on Sunday, the Barguna SP said they were arrested as suspects.
He expressed the hope that Nayon Bond and Rifat Farazi will be arrested within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Rifat’s wife Ayesha Siddika Minni demanded exemplary punishment of the killers. “I seek Prime Minister’s intervention to mete out exemplary punishment to those who killed my husband in front of me,” she said.
Five days on: Rifat’s main killers still at large
Barguna, June 30 (UNB) - Although five days have elapsed since the brutal murder of young man Rifat Sharif, police could not yet arrest any of the main killers.
Six people have so far been arrested over the killing. However, only two of them -– Chandan and Mohammad Hasan -- are FIR-named accused.
Of the other arrestees, Nazmul was picked up after scrutinising the surveillance footage of the murder while police did not reveal anything about the rest three.
Police said they were arrested as suspects.
Meanwhile, locals alleged that law enforcers were making arrests without specific allegations to deal with the pressure they were facing from different quarters.
