The stuck ferries are named MV Amanat Shah, Ruhul Amin, Khanjahan Ali and Madhabilata.
Sheikh Mohammad Nasir, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC)said Amanat Shah, Ruhul Amin got stuck in Daskandi area near Paturia while Khanjahan Ali and Madhabilata got stuck near Daulatdia pontoon during the nor’wester that took place around 6:30.
A salvage ship and three empty ferries have been sent to the spot to rescue the passengers and the ferries around 9 pm, he said.
Meanwhile, the disruption in the ferry service has created acute suffering to the commuters on both sides of the pontoon.
Earlier the ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma River resumed around 7 pm on Sunday evening after one-and-a-half hours halt due to the sudden nor'wester.
The authorities suspended the water transport services on the route from 5:40 pm due to stormy weather.
