The four amici curiae are Barrister Rokonuddin Mahmud, Advocate AF Hasan Arif, Advocate Abdur Rezak Khan and Advocate Monsurul Hoque Chowdhury.
The six-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain also fixed May 9 for hearing a petition seeking review of the Supreme Court judgment delivered on February 14, 2017 with an observation that life imprisonment means sentence until death.
On February 14, 2017, the Supreme Court commuted the death penalty of two convicts -- Ataur Mridha and Anwar -- to imprisonment until death with an observation that life imprisonment means sentence until death.
On December 16, 2001, Zaman Yeasmin was shot to death by some miscreants in Savar.
Police submitted a charge-sheet against three people -- Anwar, Ataur Mridha and Quamrul -- on July 27, 2002.
On October 15, 2003, a Dhaka's Speedy Trial Tribunal sentenced them to death.
Of them, Anwar and Ataur filed appeals with the High Court challenging their death penalty and the court on October 30, 2007 upheld their death penalty. Later, the moved the Supreme Court against the HC judgment.
After the SC verdict, Ataur Mrida filed a petition seeking review of its judgment.
