Khulna City Corporation (KCC) on Monday unveiled its biggest ever annual budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2023-2024, amounting to Tk 1082.99 crore.
KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque announced it at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban in the city.
In the proposed budget, an amount of over Tk 196.52 crore was estimated as revenue cost while Tk 736.6 core, which will come from government allotment and development partners, was estimated for development cost.

In the FY 2022-23, the target of the budget was over Tk 861.6 crore which later stood at Tk 697.75 crore in the revised budget, achieving its target by 81 percent.
In the last budget, the target for the revenue fund was Tk 192.11 crore which later stood at Tk 282.99 crore in the revised budget, achieving by 147 percent in its own fund.
Calling it a development-oriented budget, Mayor Khaleque said no new taxes were imposed in the budget and plans were taken to increase income of the city corporation through realising municipality tax, imposing tax on all the under-construction structures following the existing rules and extending the area of its own income.

Developing roads and drainages, ending waterlogging, developing conservancy system, extending civics’ services, eradicating dengue mosquito, developing the standard of livelihood of backward people, religious places, parks, educational institutions, bringing several departments of the KCC under digital technology, increasing accountability and developing healthcare were given special priority in the budget, the mayor said.
KCC’s Budget Preparation and Managing Committee Convenor Md Ali Akbar (Tipu) presided over the budget session where panel mayors, councillors, civil society representatives, business leaders, government officials, senior KCC officials and media representatives were present.
