An 80-year-old quack was hacked to death by a man after being aggrieved allegedly for making him insane through his quackery in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Nur Hossain, a resident of Kanchannagar Government Ashrayan Project in the Fatikchhari and led life by quackery.
Though he lived in Fatikchhari’s Ashrayan Project the victim hailed from nearby Rangunia upazila.
Police, however, arrested the accused killer Abu Taher, 50, a resident of the Kanchannagar area, shortly after the incident.
On Friday night, all of a sudden the accused started chopping the quack with locally-made sharp weapons at a local market by Malek Shah Shrine, leaving him critically injured, locals said.
Later, he was rushed to a local hospital where physicians declared him dead upon arrival, they said.
Fatikchhari police station’s Officer-in-Charge Nurul Huda said being informed they rushed to the spot and arrested the accused killer redhanded.
"As far as we know, the family of accused Abu Taher has a history of mental illness. Abu Taher was sent to court after the victim’s family filed a case,” the police added.
