The deceased was identified as Mizan Sikder Mishor, 29, a resident of the area. He was a dyeing worker of a factory in Gazipur and had come home for his marriage ceremony.
His brother Sani said Mizan went to buy a mosquito coil on Monday night to a nearby shop in the area. On the way, he saw Delwar Hossain Mithu sitting along with his associates on a school field around midnight.
They locked into an altercation as he asked Delwar to pay him Tk 500. At one stage, the group started stabbing him, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rushed the man to upazila health complex where the doctors declared him dead.
Sani filed a case over his brother’s murder. Police arrested five men – Shamal, 32, Shakib, 19, Jisan, 20, Dipu, 22, and Gittu, 25 – for their alleged involvement in the killing, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station.
Police continued drive to arrest the main accused of the killing, the OC added.
