The President congratulated the outgoing British envoy on the successful completion of her tenure here.
Recalling the UK’s support to Bangladesh during the Liberation War, he said the relations between Bangladesh and the UK are very old and historic. “Six lakh non-resident Bangladeshis are living in the UK. They’re playing a vital role in socio-economic development of both the countries," he said.
Lauding the support and role of the UK over the Rohingya issue, Hamid expressed the hope that the support will continue in the future.
He also hoped that the UK will provide strong support over the Rohingya issue in different international forums.
The British envoy expressed her gratefulness to Bangladesh for the cooperation provided to her during her tenure.
She said Bangladesh is successfully marching forward to the socio-economic development and hoped that the Vision-2021 and Vision-2041 envisioned by the current government will be implemented successfully.
Describing the hosting of 10 lakh Rohingyas as a unique example of humanity, Alison Blake said, "Giving shelter to the huge displaced people with food, clothes and medical support is a big challenge for Bangladesh. The UK will stay beside Bangladesh in solving this problem successfully."
Secretaries to the President were also present during the meeting.
