Two more witnesses testified against Mamunul Haque, the former joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam before a court, in a rape case.
Judge Nazmul Haque Shyamol of District Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal recorded the statements of sub-inspector Ezazul Haque and Mosharraf Hossain, landlord of the plaintiff Jannat Ara Jharna.
Earlier, Mamunul was produced before the court amid tight security.
The leaders and activists of Hefajat-e-Islam were gathered at the court premises.
The court also fixed June 6 for the next hearing.
On April 30, 2021, a woman whom Mamunul claimed as his second wife filed a case against him with Sonargaon police station accusing him of rape on false pretext of marriage, fraud and assault.
The woman in the case statement didn’t mention herself as Mamunul Haque’s second wife.
According to the case statement, the victim claimed she had been confined after the Narayanganj resort incident and was not allowed to communicate with her parents at that time.
She blamed Mamunul for breaking up her marriage.
On April 3, 2021, the Hefazat leader was caught with the woman at the Royal Resort. He then claimed that she was his second wife.
Later, a purported phone conversation between Mamunul and his wife was allegedly leaked in which he was heard introducing the victim as his wife.
