Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Friday warned they may launch a greater movement if journalists are frequently sacked or have their wages held back by the owners of all media outlets during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The print versions of many newspapers including the Independent were closed without any previous announcement, DUJ said in a press release.
Expressing deep concern, the union said many newspapers also planning salary cut or compulsory leave for its employees.
Destroying journalist’s livelihood is an evil plot to trigger instability in the society, said DUJ leaders, adding that journalists will form a greater alliance and launch tougher movement if media owners do not step back from such ‘evil intention’.
