Law enforcement agencies have taken tight security measures to ensure peaceful elections of Khulna City Corporation polls, said Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Md. Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan.
The whole city has been brought under a security blanket and steps have been taken to conduct fair and peaceful elections, he said in a press briefing on Sunday.

The law enforcement agencies have done whatever is needed to ensure security, and 2,300 closed-circuit cameras have been installed in polling stations, he said.
Besides, 44 magistrates in 31 wards of the city and 8,300 members of law enforcement agencies are already in the field to maintain law and order, he added.
There will be 20 observers from two non-governmental organizations and 10 observers from the Election Commission.
Returning Officer Md Alauddin said voting at all centres in the KCC election will be held using electronic voting machines (EVM).

He said five candidates for mayoral post, 136 for general councillors for 31 wards and 39 for reserved seats will compete in the election.
All out preparations for Khulna City Corporation election have been completed, he said, adding that voting will start at 8 am and will continue till 4pm, without any break.
Campaigning for the election started on May 26 with the allocation of election symbols and stopped on Saturday midnight as per order of the EC.

A total of 5,35,528 people are supposed to exercise their franchise in the 31 wards of Khulna city and there are 1,732 polling booths under 289 polling stations.
