Judge Nobanita Guha of the Cognisance Court-2 denied bail to the accused, Helal alias Ripon, 23, son of Jasim Uddin of Uttar Bayga village, and sent him to jail when he turned up, said Inspector (Investigation) of Char Jabbar Police Station Ibrahim Khalil, also investigation officer of the case.
The IO also said he sought a seven-day remand for four other accused -– Bechu Majhi, Raihan, Arman and Rubel -– in the case while the court will pass its order on Sunday.
On Wednesday, key accused in the case Bechu Majhi surrendered before the same court.
Police have so far arrested five of the eight FIR-named accused while two others surrendered before the court.
Meanwhile, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist) formed a human chain in the district town of Maizdee demanding exemplary punishment of the culprits.
According to the case statement, the victim, a mother of six, was ‘gang-raped’ while her husband was tied to a banana tree at the Uttar Bagya village on March 31 reportedly following a dispute over voting for the post of upazila vice chairman during upazila parishad polls.
Later, the victim's husband filed a case with Char Jabbar Police Station, accusing 12 people, including four unnamed ones.
