Bus communication on the Kushtia-Meherpur Route has been suspended from Sunday morning over a dispute between bus owners and workers, causing immense sufferings to the commuters.
Mukbul Hossain Lavlu, general secretary of Kushtia District Bus-Minibus Owners Association, said no bus from Kushtia Bus Terminal left for Meherpur Sunday due to the indefinite strike.
On the other hand, the sudden disruption of bus communication between the districts put hundreds of passengers in sufferings.
Marium Sultana, one of the victims, said she had to bear an additional cost of Tk 150 to go Meherpur from the Kushtia Bus Terminal due to the strike compared to normal fare Tk 130.
Transport leader Lavlu said a chase and counter chase took place between bus owners and workers over taking passengers on a Dhaka-bound bus in Bamundi area of Meherpur district on Saturday.
Protesting the incident, bus drivers halted plying vehicles on the route since Sunday morning, he said, hoping that the problem will be addressed soon considering the suffering of people.
