The arrestees were identified as Md Tanjib Hossain, 30, zonal Amir of outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh and son of Abul Kalam of Rahman Nagar in Sitakunda upazila and Atikur Shawan, 24, member of militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and son of late Golam Kabir of Talabhanga Roybhog area in Sadar upazila.
In Chattogram, acting on a tip-off, an elite force team conducted a drive in Liberty Complex near Chandgaon Police Station area in the port city and arrested Atikur along with six books on outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir and some notification pages and forms, said ASP Mimtanur Rahman, assistant director of RAB-7.
In Barishal, another elite force team on Saturday conducted a drive in Zia Road area in the city and arrested Atikur along with a foreign pistol, six bullets, two magazine and 355 books on jihad, said Hasan Ali, assistant director of Rab-8, on Sunday afternoon.
A case was filed with Kotwali Model Police Station in this connection.
