Bhola, Apr 16 (UNB) – A countrywide indefinite strike of Water transport workers has separated the island district Bhola from the rest of the country.
The Water transport workers began their strike early Tuesday to press home their 11-point demand, causing immense sufferings to passengers.
Launch operation on all routes including Dhaka, Barishal and other divisional cities remained suspended since the morning.
Witnesses said hundreds of Barishal bound commuters gathered at Bheduria launch terminal in the morning and crossed the river with alternative ways like trawler and speed boat taking risk and paying double fare.
Some went back home as they were unable to pay the excessive fare though Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) claimed that at least 50 launches have been operating on different routes across the country.
