Besides, a teenage girl was allegedly raped in Faridpur while rape attempt was made on a minor girl in Sylhet on the day.
The Noakhali victim, 32, filed a case with Kabirhat Police Station at noon accusing four people of committing the misdeed.
Soon after the filing of the case, police arrested an accused, Zakir Hossain, 40, a grocer and son of Enamul Haque of the village.
Locals said the victim has been living at her residence along with her two daughters and a son as her husband is now in jail in a political case.
Her elder daughter reads in Class-V while son is a Class-II student and the younger daughter is yet to enroll in school.
According to the case statement, Zakir along with his three accomplices broke into her house in the early hours taking advantage of her husband’s absence.
They held the victim and her three children hostage and raped her in turns.
Office-in-charge of Kabirhat Police Station Mohammad Hasan said the victim’s husband was arrested on December 23 in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act over a clash between supporters of Awami League and BNP that took place on December 11.
He said they sent the victim to Sadar Hospital for medical examination.
Earlier on December 31, a group of hoodlums violated another woman at Charjubali village in Subarnachar upazila after the national election.
The incident sparked widespread protests across the country. Law enforcers have so far arrested 10 people over the incident.
In Faridpur, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a young man at Paschim Alipur in the district town in the early hours.
Victim’s mother lodged a written complaint with Kotwali Police Station in this regard, said its officer-in-charge AFM Nasim.
In the complaint, she alleged that their neighbour Abdullah, 20, took the girl to the rooftop of their house when she went to toilet to respond to the call of nature at dead of night.
The victim narrated the incident to her mother in the morning, she said, adding that Abdullah used to harass the girl very often.
The OC also said they sent to girl to hospital for medical test.
In Sylhet, a van-puller was held for trying to rape a minor girl on the of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus at noon.
The arrestee is Abdus Salam, 35, hailing from Pirpur village in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district.
Campus sources said Salam tried to violate the girl, aged 6-7, on a hill behind Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall on the campus.
Hearing victim’s screams, students and locals rushed in and caught the offender.
Later, he was handed over to police, said OC of Jalalabad Police Station Harunur Rashid.
