Costa Rican striker Daniel Colindres, and home-grown forwards Mohammed Motin Mia and Tawhidul Alam Sabuz scored one goal each for Bashundhara while forward Rakibul Islam and Gambian striker Landing Darboe netted one goal each for Rahmatgonj.
With the day’s feat, Bashundhara Kings maintained their unbeaten run and incredible win percentage in the league through 17 matches, amassing 49 points out of a possible 51. Their lead over the current holders and nearest rivals Abahani now stands at a substantial 7 points.
It means the Kings will have to slip-up at least thrice in their remaining 7 games to give Abahani any chance of catching them.
Rahmatgonj remained 9th with their previous credit of 15 points from 18 matches.
In the match, Bashundhara Kings started their attacking brand of football within the opening minute of the match.
Kings got their first success in the 10th minute while Daniel Colindres opened the account for his side (1-0).
In the 25th minute, Mohammed Motin Mia doubled the margin.
But the Old Dhaka-outfit Rahmatgonj MFS came alive and tried to come back in the match.
Hosts Rahmatgonj bagged its fruits in the 42nd minute with forward Rakibul Islam netting to halve the deficit going into halftime (2-1).
The game had been thrown open, and in the second half, both teams played more open, attacking football. Much of it would have gone for nothing though till the fag end of the game, in fact stoppage time (92 minutes), when Sabuz bagged the Kings’ third goal, that finally killed off Rahmatgonj’s chances.
But Rahmatgonj got another chance to reduce the goal difference in the last minute, as they were awarded a penalty kick, that Darboe converted coolly, but it was little more than consolation.
