Australia won the toss and elected to bat first in their inaugural match of the World Cup 2023 against hosts India on Sunday.
While performing the toss in this match, Rohit Sharma, at 36 years and 161 days old, became the eldest Indian captain to lead the team in a World Cup match, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin, who held the helm at 36 years and 124 days old back in 1999.

India clinched the title in the previous World Cup held in the subcontinent, marking their latest triumph in the tournament's history.
In World Cup encounters, Australia and India have met 13 times, with Australia emerging victorious in eight of those encounters.
