In their ICC World Cup 2023 opener against Afghanistan in Dharamsala, Bangladesh faced an early setback in pursuit of 157 as Tanzid Hasan Tamim fell victim to a run out, and Litton Das was bowled out by Fazalhaq Farooqi. The openers were dismissed for just 27 runs.
Litton's aggressive charge down the pitch in an attempt to execute a cover drive led to him playing the ball too far from his body. This resulted in an inside edge that hit the leg stump, ending his innings at 13. This brought Bangladesh to 27 for two in 6.4 overs.

Before Litton, it was Tanzid who fell victim. A medium-length ball just off the off-stump prompted Litton to punch towards the point region and take a stride forward. Tanzid made a swift dash towards the opposite end, but Litton signaled for him to return. However, the decision was slightly delayed, and Tanzid's retreat was not swift enough, resulting in Bangladesh’s first wicket loss in a run out.
