Imrul hit his third fifty on Friday in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to guide his team Chattogram Challengers to the sixth win of the season.
In the post-match media interaction, Imrul said he is not worried much about the social media thing. He said the fans probably troll him much for their immense love for him.
“I don’t poke my nose much in social media affairs. So I actually don’t care what the people are saying about me over there. But if someone calls me ‘Imrul bro’ sarcastically, I won’t mind. They probably say it because they love me,” Imrul told the media laughing.
Imrul started the ongoing season of BPL hitting 61 against Sylhet Thunder in Dhaka. In the Chattogram-phase of BPL, he hit another fifty against Cumilla Warriors. Now, the southpaw recorded his third fifty of the season.
If he can continue on this run, he might get a chance in the T20I squad of Bangladesh national team. However, Imrul ruled out any thought about his future as a T20I international player.
“I don’t want to say anything about my future as a T20 player. Wherever I get a chance to play, I try to do better. I don't play with the target of the national team. My job is to perform well. If the selectors think I am capable of doing better, they might call me. If they don't, I have no problem,” Imrul added.
In the absence of Mahmudullah Riyad, Imrul has been leading the Chattogram Challengers in this BPL. Imrul said the new stint of captaincy is helping him a lot to understand the game in a better way.
Chattogram Challengers won six of their eight games. Another win will ensure a playoff berth for them. “We are happy with the way we have been performing in BPL. If we can finish the league-phase being number one or two, it will help us get more confidence,” Imrul added.
