Both Abahani and Rupganj obtained 14 points. But Abahani are top with a better run rate than Rupganj.
Abahani beat Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity on Monday by a big margin of 132 runs at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan in Savar while Rupganjs outclassed BKSP by five wickets in Fatullah.
In Savar, Khelaghar won the toss sent Abahani to bat first. They accumulated 262 runs in 48.4 overs for all wickets.
Abahani lost two wickets in 57 runs. However, in the third wicket stand, Nazmul Hossain and Sabbir Rahman added 93 runs to accelerate the innings.
Nazmul was the best batsman for Abahani scoring 60 off 70 balls with nine fours. Sabbir also was rhythmic in the middle as he struck 49 off 49 balls with seven fours. Along with them, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was also comfortable with the bat hitting 47 with two fours and one sixes to his name.
For Khelaghar, Robiul Haque was splendid with the ball as he recorded his third five-wicket haul in the match. The right-arm pacer bagged five wickets for 64 runs in 9.4 overs while Irfan Hossain bagged three wickets.
In reply, Khelaghar were 130 all-out in just 32.5 overs. They were clueless to bat against the spin attack of Abahani.
Mosaddek Iftekhar (36) and Shahriar Komol (32) were the only two batsmen of Khelaghar to reach the 30-runs mark. Apart from them, there were only two batsmen to reach the double-digit scores in the innings — Mahidul Islam Ankon (22) and Nazimuddin (10). Eventually, they suffered the seventh loss of the season.
For Abahani, Sunzamul Islam bagged four wickets while Nazmul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz scalped two wickets each.
In the other match of the day in Fatullah, Rupganj won the toss and sent BKSP to bat first, who could gather just 189 for nine wickets in 50 overs.
BKSP started well as they passed the 100-runs mark losing two wickets. But they disappointed in trying to capitalize on this. They lost the wickets on a regular basis and failed to post a challenging total.
Shamim Hossain was the only batsman of BKSP to show some courage with the bat. He struck 52 and was the best batsman of his team. There was no other batsman to show firmness in the middle for them.
For Rupganj, Indian right-arm medium pacer Rishi Dhawan bagged five wickets while Muktar Ali took two wickets for them.
In reply, Mominul Haque struck 93 to help Rupganj win in 45 overs having five wickets in hand. They ended up 182 for five wickets.
Along with Mominul’s 93, Mehedi Maruf (27) and Naeem Islam (31) also contributed with the bat for Rupganj.
For BKSP, Sumon Khan and Abdul Kayium scalped two wickets each.
Rupganj ensured the Super League berth by winning their seventh match in the league while BKSP suffered the fifth loss.
