Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin told the media that Shakib requested for rest as he went through an excessive amount of cricket in the recent past. Mahmudullah is uncertain for several injuries that he has been going through while Liton is set to get married in July.
The schedule of Sri Lanka series is yet to be announced by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). However, its CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury on Monday said, they will finalize the schedule of Sri Lanka series in the coming days.
Shakib performed exceptionally well in the World Cup. He amassed 606 runs with two centuries and five fifties. At the same time, he took 11 wickets as well.
Mahmudullah failed to fulfill the expectation in the World Cup as the all-rounder has been suffering from a long shoulder injury.
He got another blow on his calf muscle during the Afghanistan match in the World Cup as well, that prevented him to show his natural performance.
Liton, on the other hand, played five matches and hit a fifty. His unbeaten 94 off 69 with eight fours and four sixes against West Indies was one of the finest innings that Bangladeshi players have played in the World Cup.
However, BCB is yet to respond to the request of Shakib. But the demeanour that BCB has expressed regarding the issue is to allow Shakib to take rest.
The board is yet to call the squad of Sri Lanka tour. So will replace these three players in the tours is yet to be confirmed.
