In the morning, data compiled by JHU showed the globally confirmed cases rising at 18,540,119.

The US has the highest number of cases (4,771,080) and deaths (156,801).

It is followed by Brazil with 2,801,921 cases and 95,819 deaths. India is the third worst-hit country with 1,908,254 confirmed cases and 39,795 deaths.

Mexico has the third highest number of deaths at 48,869, followed by the UK (46,295).

Coronavirus cases were first reported in China’s Hubei province in December last year. The World Health Organization declared it a pandemic in March.

Hubei did not report any new case on Wednesday.

‘Do it all’

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has predicted that the effects of coronavirus will be felt for decades to come and urged everyone to learn to live the virus.

“Most of the world’s people remain susceptible to this virus, even in areas that have experienced severe outbreaks,” he said.

Tedros said that although vaccine development is happening at record speed, we must learn to live with this virus and we must fight it with the tools that we have.

On Monday, the WHO chief said a number of vaccines are now in phase 3 clinical trials, and we all hope to have a number of effective vaccines that can help prevent people from infection.

However, there is no silver bullet at the moment, and there might never be, Tedros said.

“The message to people and governments is clear: do it all,” he stated, “and when it’s under control, keep going!”

Meanwhile, Bangladesh on Tuesday confirmed 50 more deaths from Coronavirus, pushing the death tally to 3,234.

The mortality rate has gone up to 1.33 percent.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18. Currently, the officially confirmed cases stand at 2,44,020.
