The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested six people, including women and children, along the Jhenaidah border for trespass on Monday.
All the arrestees claimed that they are citizens of Bangladesh.
BGB sources said some of the arrestees were trying to go to India while some were entering Bangladesh without travel documents through Baghadanga and Khoshalpur border in Maheshpur upazila early Monday.
A team of BGB Maheshpur-58 Battalion conducted a drive in Baghadanga and arrested them, said Assistant Director of the battalion Mohammad Nazrul Islam Khan.
Shafiqul Mandal, a broker who was helping them cross the border, was also arrested.
A case has been filed with Maheshpur police and they have been handed over to the police station.
With the neighbouring country grappling to contain the second wave of Covid-19, the border guards are on high alert to prevent the spread of the Indian variant in Bangladesh.
The government shut down border with India and extended the closure keeping movement of cargoes uninterrupted.
Bangladesh closed its border with India for two weeks from April 26 and later extended the time by 14 days on May 8.
On Monday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said the Indian variant could not spread much thanks to the timely closure of the border.
