At the beginning of the programme, Ambassador Rabab Fatima hoisted the national flag on the embassy premises in the morning with the singing of national anthem.
She stood in solemn silence for a minute as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the Liberation War martyrs, the embassy said in a statement.
A special prayer was offered seeking prosperity of Bangladesh. Besides, special supplements were published by local dailies, marking the day.
Later at a Tokyo hotel, the National Day reception was held where Japanese ministers, diet members, Ambassadors, leading business leaders, thinktanks, civil society representatives and expatriate Bangladesh community members joined.
Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Toshiko Abe graced the occasion as chief guest and Ichiro Tsukada, State Minister for MLIT read out the message of Taro Aso, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Japan, who is also the President of Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship League.
Among others, Yoshitaka Sakurada, Minister for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, Minoru Kiuchi, State Minister of the Environment, Yasutoshi Nishimura, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary were also present.
Bangladesh and Japan’s national anthems were performed on violin.
Ambassador Fatima paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the martyrs of Liberation war and freedom fighters.
