The number of dengue cases was 1,446 on Friday.
A minor boy died of dengue at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) on Friday evening.
The deceased was identified as Jarif Mia, son of Md Arif Mia of Sikarikanda in Sadar upazila of the district.
MMCH Deputy Director Dr Lakshmi Narayan Majumder said Jarif was undergoing treatment at Gazipur Sadar Hospital after he was diagnosed with dengue.
Doctors there recommended shifting him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. “But his parents took him to MMCH around 5pm on Friday,” Majumder said. “He died within an hour.”
Of the new infections, 570 were recorded in Dhaka alone while 609 in other parts of the country.
According to official statics, 62,217 patients infected with dengue were hospitalised and 55,881 of them discharged after treatment since the beginning of this year.
The government has so far confirmed the deaths of 47 people but unofficial estimates suggest a higher death toll.
Currently, 6,289 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals and clinics, among them 3518 taking treatment in Dhaka, according to the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services.
