Dhaka, Nov 17 (UNB) – The High Court on Sunday ordered the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution to investigate toys for children found in chip packets and submit a report within two weeks.
It also sought explanation why the authorities concerned should not be directed to stop putting toys in chip bags.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman issued the rule after hearing a writ petition.
Secretaries to the Commerce Ministry, Home Ministry, chairman of MM Ispahani Limited and Chairman of Ingreen Limited and Head of Marketing were made respondents to the rule. They have been asked to respond within four weeks.
Advocate Mohammad Maniruzzaman filed the petition.
In the petition, it said children often swallowed toys found inside packets of chips, which is a dangerous thing. “I filed the writ because prevention is better than cure,” the petitioner said.
