Dhaka, Apr 2 (UNB) – A minor girl was killed while at least 30 people injured as a nor'wester coupled with hailstorm and rain swept different parts of Natore and Joypurhat districts on Tuesday afternoon.

In Natore, Sathi Khatun, 9, daughter of Mojnu Mia, was killed when the branch of a tree fell on her during the storm at Laxmipur around 5pm. She was class three student of a local school.

Several hundred trees were uprooted while many croplands were damaged during the storm, said Sima Rani Kunda, assistant general manager of Palli Bidyut Samity-1.

In Joypurhat, at least 30 people were injured and some 50 houses including schools, madrasas and shops were damaged as a storm lashed Panchbibi upazila of the district around 4pm.

Members of Fire Service and Civil Defense rescued the injured people and sent to Joypurhat Modern Hospital, said Bozlar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Panchbibi Police Station.
