A group of disgruntled army officers killed the Father of the Nation along with most of his family members on August 15, 1975.
The ruling Awami League and its associate bodies have chalked out month-long programmes on the occasion.
Awami Swechchhashebak League brought out a torch procession from Dhanmondi’s road-32 around 12:01am which ended at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader will inaugurate a blood donation programme organised by the Krishak League in Dhanmondi at 3pm today.
Other programmes of the month of mourning include observing birth anniversaries of Begum Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and Bangabandhu’s eldest son Sheikh Kamal, serial bomb blasts on August 17, grisly grenade attack on Awami League rally and death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
