A Chattogram court on Thursday indicted 46 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami in a case filed on charges of sabotage in 2018.
Chattogram 's Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shamsul Arefin framed the charges after the hearing.
Former assistant office secretary of Chattogram Metropolitanunit BNP Md Idris Ali, Bayazid Bostami Thana BNP president Abdullah Al Harun, general secretary Abdul Quader Jasim, joint general secretary Dr. Farhad Hossain, former Bayazid Bostami Thana Jamaat Amir Ismail Hossain Siraji,Jalalabad Ward BNP President Md Belal, General Secretary Mamun Alam, PanchlaishWard BNP General Secretary SM Abul Kalam Abu, Amin Shilpanchal Ward BNP GeneralSecretary Kamrul Islam and Mahanagar Juba Dal Joint Secretary Ershad Hossain are among the 46 accused in the case.
“We appealed to court to discharge the leaders of BNP andJamaat in the case. But the court framed charges against them,” saidpetitioners’ lawyer Nazmul Hasan Siddiqui and legal affairs secretary of theMahanagar Juba Dal.
According to the case statement, BNP-Jamaat took out aprotest rally on the night of October 14, 2018 in Shershah textile area.
The accused vandalised vehicles and blasted cocktails fromthe rally.
A case was lodged in Bayazid Bostami police station mentioningthe names of 44 people.
Later, police submitted a charge sheet to the court against46 people after the investigation.
