Bangladesh U-16 Women’s Football team, which brought laurel for the country by reaching the eight-team final round of the prestigious AFC Junior Women’s meet last year, are badly in need of a win against the home side to keep their group champions mission alive for a final round berth.
Earlier, Bangladesh, which were placed in Group B of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship with China, the Philippines and hosts Myanmar, will play their remaining Group match against stronger China on Sunday (March 3) at the same venue.
China beat Myanmar 5-0 goal in the other opening day fixture on Wednesday.
Bangladesh got off to a flying start in the qualifying round outplaying their rivals the Philippines by massive 10-0 goals after leading the first half by 6-0 goals in their first match in Myanmar on Wednesday, featuring a hat-trick by celebrated striker Tahura Khatun.
Ahead of the Friday’s match against hosts Myanmar, Head Coach of Bangladesh Team Golam Robbani Choton said, “Tomorrow (Friday) we’ll play against hosts Myanmar. This is our most important and vital match because we came here to qualify for the final round.”
“Myanmar are a very good and strong side. Our team are also a strong side. Our team are doing hard training for the last one year and we’ll play the best football tomorrow to win the match,” he added.
Vice-Captain of Bangladesh Team Akhi Khatun said, “We want to play better football in our second match against hosts Myanmar. We’ll try our best to win the match. Our target is to qualify for the final round.”
Bangladesh’s successful striker Tohura Khatun said she will try again her best to score in the next match against Myanmar to keep the team in the winning track, according to a message received from Myanmar.
