The hosts were all-out for only 129 runs where Shakib Al Hasan was the only man to show some prowess by hitting 61. Sheldon Cottrell, the left-arm West Indian pacer, scalped four wickets for 28 runs.
Bangladesh started the innings scoring seven runs in the first over of Oshane Thomas. They added another 12 runs in the second over but lost the wicket of Tamim Iqbal who tried to pull a Sheldon Cottrell delivery but failed.
After three balls, Bangladesh lost Tamim’s opening partner Liton Das. The right-handed batsman trapped by a short ball of Oshane Thomas when tried pull it but only managed a top edge and the Windies captain Carlson Brathwaite did not miss the chance to catch it.
Sheldon Cottrell, who was playing his first match in the series, struck again in the fourth over by removing Soumya Sarkar. The southpaw got dismissed in a similar fashion of Tamim and Liton when he went to pull a short ball and managed a top edge. Rovman Powell took an easy catch at mid-wicket.
Despite the dismal show from the other end of the wicket, Shakib was hitting fours to keep the score going on. Bangladesh added 48 runs in five over losing three wickets. Shakib scored 23 of those runs.
At the fifth wicket stand, Bangladesh were hoping a big partnership between Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim.
Mushfiqur indicated to fulfill the hope as he started the innings hitting a four in a full toss delivery of Thomas. But in the next over, he fell to a tremendous direct hit from Rovman Powell. Bangladesh lost almost half of their wickets just having 48 runs on the board.
Bangladesh lost Mahmudullah after a 23-ball stand of fifth wicket. He went to cut but failed to judge the line correctly. The ball passed him after kissing his gloves and the wicket-keeper Shai Hope took a tight catch.
The Tigers lost their sixth wicket at 16th over when Ariful Haque went to sweep and caught at deep square leg. Right after that over, Mohammad Saifuddin, the all-rounder pulled straight to long-on and caught.
The Tigers lost their last three wickets in eight runs as Shakib fell to a short ball off Sheldon, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur fell prey to Keemo Paul. And eventually, Bangladesh managed a total of 129 in 19 overs.
While the first match of three-match of the series was taking place in Sylhet on Monday, the remaining two will be held in Dhaka on 20 and 22 December respectively at 5:00 pm.
