Dhaka, Nov 25 (UNB) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday stayed for eight weeks a High Court order halting the decisions of Bangladesh Bank and Sonali Bank rescheduling a Tk 27-crore loan of Chief Whip ASM Feroz, clearing the way for his participation in the next general election.
Appellate Division Chamber Judge Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order following a petition filed by ASM Feroz seeking a stay on the HC order.
Barrister M Amir-Ul Islam and Tania Amir, who stood for the chief whip, said the SC stayed the HC order for eight weeks (two months).
As a result, there is no obstacle to his participation in the forthcoming general election.
Earlier on November 22, the High Court stayed the Bangladesh Bank and Sonali Bank decisions to allow M/S Patuakhali Jute Mills to reschedule its loans of Tk 27-crore.
The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order after primary hearing of a writ petition filed by Bauphal municipality mayor Ziaul Haque.
