A BNP-backed councillor candidate in the elections to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) was arrested on Thursday in old cases filed against him.
Bangshal police arrested Tajuddin Ahmed Taju, who submitted his nomination paper to vie for 32-No Wad councillor post in the DSCC polls with BNP’s support, from Tikatuli intersection in the city around 4:30pm.
Officer-in-charge of Bangshal Police Station Shahin Faki said some cases were filed against Taju under the Explosives Act several years ago.
He also said the court earlier issued warrants for his arrest in some of those cases. “That’s why we arrested him as per the court order.”
However, Taju’s son Imran Ahmed told reporters that his father was freed on bail from jail on December 14.
“We all know my father had been on bail in all the cases filed against him,” he added.
