“As the Foreign Minister of India, I’m committed to take the partnership between the two neighbouring countries to that level as envisioned by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the beginning of Bangladesh’s independence,” Jaishankar was quoted as saying in a letter sent to his Bangladesh counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen.
He said the relationship between the two countries has deepened and it has been possible due to the farsighted leadership of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a media release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here on Friday.
Jaishankar, in his letter sent on June 4, also expressed his willingness to visit Bangladesh soon.
He said the formation of new governments in Bangladesh and India by Bangladesh Awami League and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) with people's massive mandates is the reflection of their support towards stronger partnership between the two countries.
