As of Sunday, seven out of 12 pre-stressed mounting blocks, under the third phase of inner containment construction of reactor building at unit-1, have already been installed, it said in a statement.
Construction of 14.5 metres of the inner containment is underway at the moment, Rosatom added. With this, construction of 20 metres of the containment has already completed in two phases. Total height of the inner containment will be 61.7 metres.
Earlier, underground construction of 30-metre structure was completed and the Core Catcher, one of the major components of passive safety system, had been installed.
Simultaneously, 64.5-metre high outer containment is also under construction.
The installation of reactor at unit-1 will begin this year after it reaches from Russia, said the Rosatom.
The RNPP authorities have taken all necessary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus at the site, following the Bangladesh government and WHO guidelines.
It is one of the priority projects of the Bangladesh government being implemented under the technical and financial assistance from Russia.
The project will host two units, each with the latest generation 3+ VVER 1200 reactors. Total capacity of the plant is estimated to be 2,400 MW, said Rosatom.
