A district court in Joypurhat sentenced four individuals to life imprisonment for the 2001 murder of a man over an extramarital relationship in 2001, including his wife at the time.
The convicts are—Doly Begum, wife of late Abul Hossain; Suren Urau, son of Nigma Urau, Mostafizur Rahman, son of Dhalu Mandal of Panchbibi upazila and Kafa, son of Firoz Uddin of Dinajpur district. Doly was tried in absentia.
Joypurhat District and Session Judge Nur Islam handed down the punishment.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default to suffer one year more in rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Abul Hossain, son of Foyez of Panchbibi upazila, married Dolly, daughter of Abdur Rahman of Kutahara village.
The couple were usually quarreling, and in time Doly developed an extramarital relationship with Mostafizur.
At one stage, Abul Hossain came to know about their relationship.

This led to the convicts making a plan to kill Abul Hossain, as a part of which they called him to his in-laws' residence on September 28, 2001. When he came, he was strangled to death.
Police recovered the body of Abul Hossain the following day, after which a case was filed with Panchbibi Police Station.
