Wing Commander Sarwar-e-Zaman, director of the airport, said customs intelligence officials recovered the abandoned gold bars from the airport’s toilet.
Nobody was arrested in this connection, he said, adding that the smugglers went into hiding when the search began after passengers had gotten off a flight of Salam Airways from Oman at noon.
The National Security Intelligence (NSI) and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate will look into the incident, he added.
He said legal actions will be taken under the Customs Act in this regard.
On early Friday, customs officials seized 7,183 cartons of cigarettes from 29 passengers of a flight of Bangladesh Biman from Medina.
A passenger is not allowed to bring in more than one carton of cigarette.
