Md. Ruhullah Chowdhury, chairman of Charati Union of Chattogram's Satkania Upazila, has been suspended temporarily for negligence of duty.
Jasmine Pradhan, senior secretary of the local government department, issued a notification in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman confirmed on Friday.

The suspended UP chairman is the brother-in-law of Dr. Abu Reza Mohammad Nezam Uddin Nadwi, incumbent Member of Parliament from Chittagong-15 constituency.
Ruhullah Chowdhury was suspended temporarily as he was found to be negligent in performing his duties, as per the notification.

Besides, his activities went against the public interest including the Union Parishad, it added.
Earlier, the investigation committee gave a report accusing UP Chairman Ruhullah Chowdhury over theft of sand and excavator from the union.

The report was submitted to the upazila executive officer Fatema Tuz Zohra by a five-member investigation committee including the convenor of the sand auction committee and the upazila assistant commissioner (land).
Later, she submitted the report with recommendations to the Deputy Commissioner to take action against him.
