Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi disclosed the plan while speaking at a press briefing on the National Jute Day at the secretariat on Thursday noon.
The National Jute Day is going to be celebrated on Friday for the fourth time in the county with slogan of “Sonali Ansher Sonar Desh, Mujib Borshe Bangladesh”.
The Minister said the day is being celebrated on March 6 every year to highlight the bright prospect of the golden fiber. “This year, the day will be celebrated across the country on Friday with participation of people from different levels of the society,” he added.
In the previous season, around 74.46 lakh bales of raw jute were produced in the country. The jute and jute goods sector fetched export earnings of USD 616.20 million from July to January of the current fiscal year, which is 20.82 percent higher than that of the corresponding period of the previous year, the minister revealed.
The individuals to be awarded are Md Shahidul Islam, chief scientific officer of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute; Kohinoor Yasmin, chief executive officer of Taranga; Mohammad Bin Abdus Salam, proprietor of Classical Handmade Products BD; Shahanur Alam Shantu, a jute cultivator in Kushtia; Md Arif Sheikh, a farmer of Faridpur.
Besides, the institutions are Alijan Jute Mills Ltd, Nowapara Jute Mills Ltd, Akij Jute Mills Ltd, Karim Jute Spinners Ltd, Janata Jute Mills Ltd, and Creation Private Ltd.
