The information minister made the remarks while briefing journalists in front of the Bangabandhu Museum in Dhanmondi-32, after paying rich tribute to the Father of the Nation by placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu marking the historic Six-Point Day.
The greatest Bangalee of thousand years Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman raised the demand in 1966. The goal of the demand was to move the nation towards independence step by step and stimulate the thoughts of the powa achieving the independence of the country.
"The people of the then East Bengal have expressed their unwavering support for these 6 points and the elections were held in 1970 on the basis of these 6 points," he said.
Hasan said, "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu won a majority seat in the National Assembly of Pakistan with the unwavering support of the people of this country."
He won almost all the seats in East Bengal except a few, he added. Two to be precise.
The minister said that Communist Party leader Moni Sing attended a programme on the 53rd birthday of Father the Nation and, in his speech, he (Moni Singh) told that Bangabandhu had a plan of independence in 1951 which Bangabandhu wrote in letter to Moni Sing whether he (Sing) would support it or not.
The speech was published in different newspapers at that time, added Hasan.
Looking at the history, Hasan Mahmud said, actually, Bangabandhu had realized that it was not possible to realize the rights of the Bangalee nation from the Pakistani rulers and the Bangalee would be oppressed and persecuted. “That is why he had planned independence long ago,”
He declared 6 points in 1966 as a continuation of various movements and struggle plans with the aim of creating the mindset of the nation and achieving independence.
Expressing his lament, Hasan said that even after almost 50 years of independence, it is sad that the BNP, a political party, still patronises the anti-independence forces. There are many anti-independence activists in their party as well.
The minister said “It’s really regrettable that we are still talking about independence and anti-independence after achieving independence about 50 years ago.
