NASA on Saturday announced names of six teams who came out on top in six separate categories. SUST team ‘Olik’ won the award in the ‘Best Use of Data’ category.
The champion teams are set to visit NASA.
Nearly 18,000 participants took part in the Space Apps weekend. Altogether, 1,395 teams, who won local events from across the world, submitted their projects for global judging.
Olik’s project was a Lunar VR that allows users to explore the landing site of Apollo 11, orbiting over the moon with LRO satellite, and observing eclipse from the lunar surface.
The team collected 3D model and information from various resources of NASA.
Mainul Islam, a member of Olik, said they were proud to represent Bangladesh in a global competition.
Biswaprio Chakrabarti, the coach of Olik, said the achievement was great news for Bangladesh. “Although our students have the capability to reach NASA, the main obstacle is the transport cost,” he said.
