The Bangladesh team, consisting of 103 athletes, will compete in nine different disciplines of sports with a target to clinch 15-25 medals from the ensuing meet.
In Abu Dhabi, the Bangladeshi athletes will prepare themselves for the main part of the event which will begin on March 14. Bangladesh are one of the 170 countries that are participating in this year’s Special Olympics.
Cola-Cola Bangladesh will support the Bangladesh team in the ensuing games.
The Special Olympics is the world’s largest humanitarian sporting event and a global movement which focuses on the empowerment of people with intellectual disabilities through the power of sport.
The Special Olympics Bangladesh made this announcement at a press conference at the National Sports Council (NSC) auditorium in the capital on Monday.
Chairman of Special Olympics Bangladesh (SOB) Dr Shamim Matin Chowdhury, founder Chairman of Special Olympics Bangladesh Ashraf Dowla and Country Head of Coca-Cola Bangladesh Ltd Ajay Bathija spoke on the occasions.
In the previous Special Olympics held in the USA in 2015, Bangladesh secured 18 gold, 22 silver and 14 bronze medals.
Bangladesh participated in the Special Olympics for the last 25 years and brought pride for the country by winning 216 gold, 109 silver and 84 bronze medals.
